DSTU IS ONCE AGAIN THE FIRST AMONG THE UNIVERSITIES OF THE SOUTHERN FEDERAL DISTRICT IN THE WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS 2024
For the third time DSTU has entered the rating of the best universities in the world, according to the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE). The Rostov region's flagship university is included in the group of universities 1,001-1,200.
The XX rating includes 1,904 universities from 108 countries. A year earlier, 1,799 universities from 104 countries were rated. The number of participants from the Russian Federation has increased: 78 universities in 2023 against 76 in the previous year. Despite the growth in the number of participants and increased competition both at the national and global level, DSTU manages not only to maintain its position in the ranking, but also to improve it: the university ranks 17th among the universities of the Russian Federation, while a year earlier it was in the group of 19-21. As for the regional ranking, DSTU remains the No. 1 university not only in the Rostov region, but also in the Southern Federal District.

  – DSTU has a strong position in the indicator "Quality of research activities", which testifies to the achievements of the university in terms of implementation of the Priority 2030 programme and victories of our university scientists in RNF grant competitions, - said Konstantin Polyakov, Head of the Resource Centre for International Activities of DSTU. - In particular, THE evaluated three criteria: university income from research and development, publication activity per one scientific and pedagogical employee and reputation in the academic community. The total weight of this group is 30%. That is, we are talking about the high quality of scientific work, which is reflected in the quality of publications: they have a high level of citation. As a consequence, the reputation in the scientific world community is strengthened. Due to the attraction of world-class scientists, DSTU fulfils profitable orders from commercial entities, and, as a consequence, the university's income from research activities grows.

The university was also highly evaluated according to the parameters:
– "Interaction with employers". Partners of the university are also customers of R&D.
– "Internationalisation". Due to the presence of joint educational programmes, programmes in English, high-quality training of foreign students in Russian, DSTU is attractive not only for applicants from Russia, but is also in demand among foreign citizens.
In total, 18 criteria, divided into five groups, are taken into account when preparing THE rankings. In particular, such indicators as the citation rate of scientific articles, contribution to innovation, research income, quality of teaching, and the degree of internationalisation of the university are taken into account.
