DSTU STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION IN SCIMAGO INSTITUTIONS RANKINGS
For the second year in a row, DSTU strengthens its position in one of the most prestigious Scimago University Ranking, showing the best results among universities of Southern Federal District. Among the Russian universities in the ranking, DSTU raised from 21 to 18 position, left behind Tomsk Polytechnic University, Bauman MSTU, Innopolis and Southern Federal University.
4533 universities from all over the world participated in the ranking, including 162 Russian universities. In overall ranking, DSTU took 1631 position, and, as last year, DSTU entered the first quartile Q1. Competition in Scimago Institutions Ranking is rising every year because of increase of universities amount. At the same time, DSTU indicators in the most fields are growing. The university entered TOP-500 best world university and TOP-100 best Russian universities in such areas as energy, earth sciences, and environmental sciences.
“Such a rapid growth of DSTU in the ranking is the result of development of the university in the framework of the programme “Priority - 2030”, which is aimed at building up the educational and scientific potential of Russian universities. The big influence was made by active work on the project implementation of the Scientific and Educational Center of South of Russia. In addition, notable contribution in achieving such results was caused by the extension scientific interaction at the international level, joint research and publications with foreign scholars. An independent rating confirms the growth of the scientific potential of DSTU not only as a leader in the region, but throughout the Southern Federal District.” says Konstantin Polyakov, the head of the international resource center of DSTU.
In the direction “Research” DSTU enters in top-10 universities of Russia in one line with such universities as Moscow State University, Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and Higher School of Economics. In this category, DSTU keeps the best position among the Southern Federal District universities. In this direction, DSTU strengthened its position over the past 10 years.
Moreover, in 2021 the flagship university took 4184 place among educational institutions, governmental organizations, healthcare organizations, companies, non-profit organizations, and in 2022 DSTU took 2329 place, in 2023 - 1908 place, having risen by more than 2200 points.
DSTU was also included in 14 subject rankings and sub-rankings (11 subject rankings and 3 sub-rankings). In six of them, DSTU entered top-10 among Russian universities.
The best positions of the Flagship University of the Rostov region in the subject rankings are following:
- Energy: 429th place in the world and 3rd - among the universities of the Russian Federation (in 2022, DSTU was in 5th place);
- Earth and Earth Sciences: 318th place in the world and 6th among the universities of the Russian Federation (in 2022, DSTU was in 8th place);
- Environmental Sciences: 365th place in the world and 8th - among the universities of the Russian Federation;
- Chemistry: 1368th place in the world and 10th - among the universities of the Russian Federation.
In the sub-ratings, DSTU also took leading places:
– Aviation and rocket science: 484th place in the world and 7th place among Russian universities;
– Design of buildings and structures: 672nd place in the world and 5th among Russian universities
The university also shows positive growth in the overall SCImago Institutions Ranking among all ranked organizations. In 2021, DSTU ranked 5956 in this indicator, in 2022 - 4173, this year - 4191.
SCImago Institutions Rankings is a scientific resource for evaluating universities and scientific organizations around the world, which is developed by the international company SCImago Lab based on the international scientific citation database Scopus.
Educational and scientific organizations are ranked according to a composite indicator, which includes three groups of indicators based on research activity, the results of inventive activity and the social impact of the university. Among the indicators there are those that are not affected by the number of students, scientists and academic staff, the size of the campus, and so on, which equalizes the chances of entering the ranking of universities of different scale.
